Structure & Funding
SmartBay Ireland is a not-for-profit company which was established by the Marine Institute and the third level sector to support the promotion and development of the SmartBay Marine and Renewable Energy Test Site in Galway Bay. The company receives funding from the Marine Institute and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and through participation in EU projects. This funding is used to support the SmartBay Ireland team, the promotion of the SmartBay Test Site and the development and management of client projects.
The SmartBay team provides the following supports:
Client Management and funding support:
Managing client projects from inception to project completion. Assisting potential users of the test site with their funding applications to SEAI and certain EU access projects which provide financial supports for test and validation projects. The team helps developers to accurately cost their projects and provides pre- deployment advice, planning and technical support in conjunction with the Marine Institute’s operational team.
Marketing and Promotion
Promotion of the facility to attract clients and to develop test and demonstration projects within the site.:
Priming, generating and supporting research activity at the test site through collaboration with the Marine Institute, other agencies, higher education institutions and industry.
Supporting research translation and commercialisation through the test and demonstration of new technologies and devices using the facilities, operational and technical supports available at the SmartBay test site.
